Facts "The name Beethoven is sacred in art." With this sentence Franz Liszt once expressed his exuberant admiration for Ludwig van Beethoven. His admiration is also reflected in numerous piano arrangements of Beethoven's works. Between 1837 and 1863, his piano arrangements of Beethoven's nine symphonies were a high point in 19th century piano literature. Liszt succeeded in transferring the Beethovenian spirit of orchestral music to the piano. Nothing important should be left out, nor should anything be added. The pianist Hinrich Alpers has re-recorded this unique tribute to Beethoven on piano keys. The Beethoven symphonies can be heard on six CDs in the piano version, which is incredibly virtuoso even by Lisztian standards. A handpicked vocal quartet with Christina Landshamer, Daniela Denschlag, André Khamasmie and Hanno Müller-Brachmann as well as the RIAS Chamber Choir under the direction of Justin Doyle can be heard in the 9th Symphony with its famous choir finale.
