Agnes Darelid - Rise

Facts Jazz trombonist and composer Agnes Darelid makes her album debut with RISE.

In recent years, Agnes Darelid has been active on the Stockholm and Swedish music scenes, both under her own name and as a much-in-demand sideman. She has performed in several settings and genres, including with Loke Risberg Vilddjur Septett, Norrbotten Big Band, Bohuslän Big Band, Beat Company and Radiojazzgruppen. In 2021 she was one of the featured musicians in Bohuslän Big Band's project Up & Coming Jazz Talents, and in 2023 she was one of the artists selected to represent Sweden in the EBU's Euroradio Jazz Orchestra.

RISE is a springboard toward the future but also a look back at everything that shaped the path there. With lyrical melodies, driving rhythms and colorful harmony, she paints a musical landscape that becomes entirely her own. The compositions are firmly rooted in modern jazz, yet equally inspired by everything from chorales and choral music to pop, soul and rock. The music often draws direct inspiration from life events, emotions and thoughts that have surfaced along the way. Joining her are some of the most acclaimed new talents on the Swedish jazz scene: Erik Tengholm on trumpet and flugelhorn, Britta Virves on piano, Samuel Löfdahl on bass and Edvin Glänte on drums. Guest artists on the album are the highly regarded alto saxophonist Johan Christoffersson and the Grammy-nominated percussionist and singer Liliana Zavala.

Recorded by Niclas Lindström at Atlantis Studio and mixed by Pål Svenre.
