Facts
Sometimes music comes along that makes you believe music isn't dead, that it keeps evolving and that life has a meaning worth singing about. Det Stora Monstret's heavy pop songs, with their fragile, sharp lyrics and bittersweet melodies, are exactly that kind of music.
Monstret's music has been praised by listeners and critics since the start in 2014. Now, 10 years after the unanimously acclaimed debut and several years of silence, Det Stora Monstret, or Jacob Johansson as he is really called, is back with new music. His work is genuine craftsmanship with a sound that is bombastic and innovative. This is music for the listener who misses Kent and doesn't quite vibe with Håkan Hellström. You could call his work the love child that Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead and Father John Misty never had, only with lyrics in Swedish.
Under the name Det Stora Monstret, Jacob Johansson describes and questions the world we live in in a truly unique way. With his sharp lyrics and bittersweet melodies, he seamlessly weaves together deeply personal cracks with a relevance on a global and universally existential level. The new album, "Tänder på påhittade meningar med livet," is a brutally personal, sky-storming story about deeply wounded relationships, sacrifices in life and finding your way back to yourself. It is a poetic and at the same time political album whose songs rise like black pearls from the depths, step into the heart, stay in the body and live their lives in there.
"The record grew out of a period when separation was looming and rumbling in the background the whole time. I wrote these songs because I needed to get rid of grief, fears and loss. Making the album has been both a way to cope and work through things, but also a made-up escape capsule where I could flee the cold in the living room for a while as things collapsed around me."
"Tänder på påhittade meningar med livet" was recorded and produced by Mattias Glavå (Håkan Hellström, Broder Daniel, Dungen, Dolce), Nils Krogh (Genious of Time, Arkajo) and Jacob Johansson at Kungsten Studios, among others, in Gothenburg. Text and music were created by Jacob Johansson. String arrangement by Fläskkvartetten / Fleshquartet. Mixed by Mattias Glavå at Kungsten Studios.
