Frida Franzén - Visdom Om År

Facts Frida Franzén's debut album "Visdom om år" is text-driven, unpretentious rock in Swedish. The songs tell their stories plainly and without pretense, both literally and figuratively, something that comes naturally to artists named Ulf, Lars or Tomas. Yet there is a shortage of women's rock built on the same premises, the way male rock has long been on the Swedish music scene.

The songs on "Visdom om år" were written over a long period and draw on the music that first shaped her interest in music. But it took a prolonged midlife crisis, years without music, and growing self-reliance and maturity for the album to come together.

"With Visdom om år I wanted to make a 'proper' album, with a cohesive narrative theme, but with dynamics and variety of expression between the songs. I didn't intend to do anything new. Rather, I wanted to step back into a sphere where I recognize myself."

The lyrics are charged with emotion: anger, euphoria, hope and vulnerability. Several of the songs keep the original vocals from the live takes to preserve as much edge as possible. A recurring theme in the lyrics is the seasonal rhythm of nature and the comfort found in it when humanity, as individuals or as a collective, doesn't show its best side.
