Charles Mingus - Mingus Dinasty

Facts Recorded in 1959, Mingus Dynasty finds Charles Mingus at his most ambitious, with an expanded ensemble and more complex compositions. With musicians such as Richard Williams, Jimmy Knepper, John Handy, Booker Ervin, Roland Hanna and Dannie Richmond, plus guests Benny Golson and Jerome Richardson, the album blends gospel grooves, Ellington tributes and the sweeping “Far Wells, Mill Valley.” Often overshadowed by Mingus Ah Um, it is a bold and essential masterpiece.
