Movie - 12 Years A Slave

Facts Solomon Northup is well educated and has a talent for music. He lives with his wife and children in Saratoga, New York. One day he is contacted by two men who claim to work for a circus, and Solomon agrees to play the fiddle to accompany their circus act for a short period. But after drinking a glass with the men, he wakes up dazed and bound, facing the horrifying truth: he is to be transported south as a slave.
No one listens to Solomon's protests, and no one believes he has papers that could prove he is a free man. Desperately, he makes escape plans again and again, and each time they fall through. He is sold to William Ford, a kind man who appreciates Solomon's thoughtful nature but is forced to sell him on to a cruel master who subjects the slaves to indescribable torture. Year after year, Solomon lives on the hope of seeing his family again, and although that hope grows fainter over time, he refuses to give up. All around him he sees people perish, and he realizes he must take enormous risks and trust people he does not know at all if he is ever to become a free man again.
12 YEARS A SLAVE is based on the true story of a free Black man who is kidnapped from New York and sold into slavery in 1850s Louisiana, and his struggle to return to his family.
