Samaris - Silkidrangar

Facts Vinyl LP pressing. 2014 release from the Icelandic outfit. Combining disparate elements of electronics (Doddi), clarinet (Aslaug Run Magnusdottir) and Jofridur Akadottir's hauntingvoice, Samaris mix glacial Electronica and bold, percussive beats withhaunting chant-like vocals - the lyrics culled from 19th centuryIcelandic poems. The effect is simultaneously ancient andmodern - an ethereal sound filled with dark spaces and alien atmosphere. The UK release last year of the groups' two Icelandic EPs as the eponymousSamaris sparked widespread interest, Dazed & Confused proffering an EinarOrn sponsored feature while glowing reviews appeared everywhere from theNME to the Financial Times.
