H. Self - Country Songs

Facts H. SELF aka Henric Hammarbäck's second album "Country Songs"

Drawing on the American songwriting tradition, often with Dallas Frazier as a partial guiding star, Hammarbäck has turned his home in Telefonplan into Stockholm's southern suburbs' Music Row. Though only in a purely theoretical sense, of course. The debut album Broken Live On showed deep qualities in craftsmanship and musical confidence, and was praised by Jan Gradvall in Dagens Industri as well as by Kyle "Trigger" Coroneos in the respected publication Saving Country Music. The latter went so far as to mention country music's perhaps most sacred figure, Hank Williams, in the same breath as H. Self.

"Country Songs" reflects the life behind the lines in a distinctive way, where the stories are allowed to be told as they are, without embellishment. The musical backing carries elements of traditional country, but without fully letting itself be bound by the genre's boundaries. The album was recorded at Kassmyra Country and produced by Jonas Öhlund, and the songs were written largely by Henric Hammarbäck, though guest contributions by David Ritschard also appear, including on the track "The Night When Dallas Frazier Died", which the two wrote together. A collaboration that has previously resulted in songs such as "Rockbotten", "Än går det vågor" and "Sverigerocken", released by the latter.
